Luxury Winelands wedding venues and exclusive-use estates
Boutique-hotel estates, grand wine farms and exclusive-use properties across Stellenbosch, Franschhoek, Paarl and the Helderberg, with what exclusive use and room buy-outs really mean.
Updated 2 November 2026
Luxury in the Winelands usually means one of two things: a wine estate with a five-star hotel or country house on the property, or a private estate you take over entirely for a weekend. This page covers both. Prices at this level are almost never published, so the table below compares capacity, rooms and catering, and the text explains what exclusive use, room buy-outs and minimum spends involve before you enquire.

What exclusive use actually means
Exclusive use means the estate hosts only your wedding and, usually, that you take every room on the property for the weekend. Some venues run this way by default. MolenVliet in the Banghoek Valley holds one wedding at a time and offers four kinds of accommodation on site. Hawksmoor House on the R304 is run purely as an exclusive-use estate: you take the whole property with its 16 rooms, appoint your own planner and suppliers, and use the lawns, pergola and barn as you choose. Vrede en Lust books weddings for a minimum of two nights with exclusive use of the venue and the accommodation area, which sleeps 52.
Other estates require a buy-out only for certain formats. Lanzerac requires its rooms to be booked by the wedding party and guests whenever a tent or marquee is used on the main lawn, which is how it manages noise on a working hotel estate. Mont Rochelle, a 26-room Virgin Limited Edition hotel above Franschhoek, hosts weddings of up to 80 and lets couples take all 26 rooms and suites for a private celebration. In Tulbagh, Kloofzicht books its farmhouse, loft and cottage together for a minimum of three nights.
TipBefore you compare prices, ask each estate three things: is a room block compulsory, how many rooms is it, and who pays for them. A venue fee that looks high may already include a weekend of accommodation for forty people; a venue fee that looks modest may come with a compulsory block that doubles it.
Boutique-hotel estates
These are wine farms with a hotel or country house run to five-star standards, so the couple, the wedding party and a share of guests sleep metres from the ceremony. Lanzerac has a hotel and spa behind its 300-year-old manor house, with three lawns and an air-conditioned Cellar Hall seating about 150. Hazendal, on the Cape Town side of Stellenbosch, has a hotel, spa, suites and villas alongside its Grand Hall for 250. Holden Manz in Franschhoek pairs a lawn reception in front of the winery with a five-star country house and spa. Grande Roche in Paarl is a five-star hotel at the foot of Paarl Rock with a climate-controlled glass-fronted venue and a 300-year-old chapel for elopements.

What a luxury Winelands wedding costs
No estate in this group publishes a wedding price, so the figures here are survey ranges. A 2025 South African cost survey placed luxury venue hire at R90 000 to R150 000 and a Winelands estate at R90 000 to R130 000, with Franschhoek venue hire running from R40 000 to more than R200 000. Franschhoek catering was surveyed at R800 to R2 000 a head. A 2020 UK-facing guide put an 80 to 120 guest Winelands wedding at R320 000 to R720 000 all in, and a planner-quoted luxury international wedding at R850 000 or more. For overseas couples, that upper figure is at roughly the cost of a mid-range wedding at home, which is why the Winelands attracts this market.
Budget for extras that come with the level: a service fee on the venue account (one Stellenbosch brochure adds 10 percent), the compulsory room block, a planner, and transport for guests who are not sleeping on the estate. Our guide to Winelands wedding costs breaks these down.
Do you need a planner?
Most estates in this group have an in-house coordinator who manages the venue side of the day. That is not the same as a planner who manages your suppliers, your guests' travel and the weekend around the wedding. If you are planning from abroad, or hosting across two or three days, a planner is the norm at this level; survey figures put planner fees at R15 000 to R50 000 or 10 to 15 percent of the budget. See our wedding planners page for planners who work with overseas couples.
If Franschhoek is your first choice, the Franschhoek venues page compares every estate in the valley. For a weekend wedding where everyone sleeps on site, see venues with accommodation.
