Questions couples ask

Can overseas couples get legally married in South Africa?

Yes. Foreign couples can marry legally in South Africa through a designated marriage officer. The documents you need depend on your nationality, so check the current requirements with the Department of Home Affairs and your own country's embassy well before the date.

What is the difference between a legal and a symbolic ceremony?

A legal ceremony is performed by a registered marriage officer and is registered with Home Affairs. A symbolic ceremony has no legal effect, so many overseas couples sign the legal papers at home and have a symbolic ceremony in the Winelands.

How much does a marriage officer cost for a Winelands wedding?

It depends on the size of the wedding and what is included, and most suppliers quote per wedding rather than publishing a rate card. Send the same brief (date, venue, guest count, hours needed) to three or four suppliers and compare what each quote includes, including VAT and travel.
