Tulbagh is the furthest of the six towns we cover from Cape Town, and the trade-off is a real one. You give up the restaurants and hotel choice of Stellenbosch or Franschhoek, and in return you get venues where the ceremony, reception and beds are all on one farm, prices that are the lowest cluster in the region by every directory tag we have seen, and a town whose Church Street is a row of restored Cape Dutch houses. Nobody publishes a Rand figure here, so every venue below quotes on request.
Nine venues make up the Tulbagh list. Eight have accommodation on the property, five have a chapel of some kind, and four let you bring your own caterer, which is the highest share of any town in the Winelands.

The wine estates set the tone. Montpellier de Tulbagh is the best known, a Cape Dutch farm with seven settings including a hillside chapel, the Dome Cathedral and a Glass House, catering for up to 150 and sleeping 80 overnight. Manley Wine Estate under the Winterhoek has a small consecrated chapel, a beamed hall for 120 that opens onto the lawns, in-house catering and all-inclusive packages. Rijk's lets you marry in the vineyards, the cellar, on the stoep or by the dam, and its guesthouse sleeps 36. Saronsberg's ceremonies are under old oaks on the front lawn with vineyard cottages for guests, though its details come from a directory rather than the estate itself, so confirm them.

Waverley Hills, a wine and olive estate between Tulbagh and Ceres, has a stone chapel seating 120 and a main venue of the same size with a patio and fireplace, plus a backup generator and air-conditioning. Roodezand is a 220-year-old farm building at the foot of the Winterhoek for 60 to 120 guests with a working fireplace and dance floor. Olive Rock, on White Bridge Farm beside the Breede River near Wolseley, takes up to 200 with river and garden ceremonies and riverside accommodation; its own site has carried a storm-damage note, so check it is trading on your date.

De Stilte is a riverside glamping farm with an Oak Shed for 80, bell tents, suites and a cottage, no corkage, and no venue fee if you book the whole camp. Kloofzicht Estate off the R46 runs three-night exclusive-use weddings: you take the farmhouse, loft and cottage sleeping about 26, say your vows under the trees or on the lake jetty, and bring your own suppliers. It puts itself about 70 minutes from Cape Town.

Olive Rock is the only Tulbagh venue listing 200. Montpellier takes 150. The 120 band is crowded: Manley, Waverley Hills and Roodezand all cap there, and Roodezand has a 60-guest minimum. De Stilte's shed holds 80, and the small exclusive-use weddings belong at Kloofzicht, which is really sized by its beds. Rijk's and Saronsberg do not publish a capacity, so ask.

Check availabilityWhat a Tulbagh wedding costs
We cannot give you a hire fee because no Tulbagh venue publishes one; Montpellier is tagged mid on Pink Book and the town as a whole sits below the Stellenbosch and Franschhoek bands. What we can say is where the savings come from. Four venues allow outside catering, De Stilte waives corkage and Rijk's welcomes your own bar, so the two biggest lines of a Winelands budget, the per-head menu and the estate wine rule, are negotiable here in a way they are not elsewhere. Bridebook's 2025 survey gives barn and farm hire at R40 000 to R60 000 nationally and venue-only hire from about R20 000, which is the range to have in mind when you ask for quotes.
- Ask whether accommodation is bundled with the venue or booked separately by guests, and what the minimum stay is over a weekend.
- Ask about generators. Waverley Hills has one; others may charge for a hire unit.
- Ask about music cut-off. Waverley Hills advertises a late curfew, which is unusual, and farms with neighbours may not.
- Ask which suppliers travel to Tulbagh without a fee. Many photographers and planners based in Stellenbosch or Paarl do, but some add travel.
Getting here and where guests stay
Tulbagh is roughly 90 minutes from Cape Town, with the road running through Paarl and Wellington, and a little further from the airport. There is no practical way to do it as a day trip for guests, which is the point: plan on at least one night. Between them the venues sleep a lot of people (Montpellier 80, Rijk's 36, Kloofzicht about 26, plus Manley, Olive Rock, Roodezand, De Stilte and Saronsberg), and The Tulbagh Hotel in the centre of town has heritage rooms on Church Street and contemporary rooms in the main building for the rest.

Check availabilitySeason
The valley is hot in midsummer and cold in winter, more so than the coastal towns. October, November, March and April are the easy months. Winter weddings work well at venues with fireplaces, which is why Roodezand and Waverley Hills make a point of theirs, and off-season dates are far easier to get than in Stellenbosch. Peak Saturdays here still go 12 to 18 months ahead, but weekday and winter dates often need only 9 to 12.
If you are still deciding between towns, our Wellington wedding venues page covers the next valley south, the affordable Winelands venues guide compares prices across all six towns, and the venues with accommodation guide ranks the region by beds on site.
